Hartley Greenhouse
One of the most frequently asked questions we get is: What is that beautiful greenhouse? And for good reason — it’s a centerpiece that stops visitors in their tracks.
Our greenhouse is an original Hartley Botanic Victorian Glasshouse — one of the few in the United States and the only one of its kind in South Georgia. These classic greenhouses trace their design back to the Victorian era when glasshouses were symbols of horticultural achievement and garden sophistication.
Hand-built in England by Hartley Botanic, a company with over 85 years of greenhouse-making heritage, this structure blends timeless architectural elegance with modern durability. The clean aluminum framework and expansive glass panes recall traditional Victorian garden conservatories, while providing abundant light and space for growing a wide range of plants.
Unlike ordinary backyard structures, Hartley glasshouses were historically prized as spaces to nurture tender plants, cultivate exotic varieties, and display growing collections — much like the grand conservatories that became central features on European estates.
At Fancy Girl Farms, this greenhouse isn’t just beautiful — it’s functional. Inside, you’ll find seasonal starts, specialty plants, tactile inspiration for your own garden. We’d love to someday host potting workshops that make the greenhouse a living classroom. It’s a place where history and horticulture meet, sparking questions from guests of all ages because there truly is nothing else like it around here.
